New OnePlus 7 will not feature wireless charging

Since it's launch, OnePlus has always given the best of the best specifications at a very reasonable rate.

We expect that OnePlus will have to jump aboard the wireless charging bandwagon at some point or another, but when that happens remains unclear. OnePlus' CEO Pete Lau, however, is concerned there might not be many 5G-centric apps to use on the device once it does launch.

Wireless charging has become a usual feature on today's high-end mobile phones. One feature that is a must-have nowadays is wireless charging; the Samsung Galaxy S10 has it, the Sony Xperia 1, and even the affordable Xiaomi Mi 9 has the feature too. When asked about Qualcomm's Quick Charge integration in wireless charging pads, and whether it will be integrated into future OnePlus phones, Lau chose to not comment.

In an interview with CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 7 won't come with support for wireless charging.

As things stand right now, the company still recommends its Dash Charge fast charging feature that can charge OnePlus phones by up to 50% in 20 minutes and up to 100% in less than an hour.

Wireless charging saw an advent in the smartphone market with Apple introducing the support for its iPhone 8-series. People like to use wireless chargers and the fact that OnePlus 7 doesn't support them is going to impact the smartphone's sales. And what wireless charging improvements would you make?

When asked about expected growth in India and the company's plan around encashing growth projections with the advent of 5G, Lau said "Growth is not something which we don't forecast but it is a result of performance and action". Recently, the company partnered with Elisa to launch its 5G smartphone in Finland in the second half of this year.
