Spike Lee, Sore Loser: 'Ref Made a Bad Call' on Best Picture

But instead, he chose to attack Spike Lee, apparently taking a call for making a "moral choice between love versus hate" as a personal attack on him which, really, is a harsher indictment of himself than anything Lee said.

"I have worked hard for a long time and it's not about winning, it's about not giving up", said a tearful Gaga.

Diamond and Silk defended President Trump Monday on "The Todd Starnes Show" while noting that Spike Lee was pushing a "fake narrative" at the Oscars. The wins for "Black Panther"-along with best-animated film victor "Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse"-meant the first Academy Awards for Marvel, the most consistent blockbuster factory Hollywood has ever seen".

The problematic Best Picture win did not escape social media.

"But in '89 I didn't get nominated, so this one we did".

"I'm snakebit. Every time someone is driving somebody, I lose", Lee told reporters in response to a question about his reaction to the win for "Green Book". His comment was a reference to 1990 best picture victor Driving Miss Daisy which won the same year his breakout film Do the Right Thing failed to pick up any awards.

Some critics faulted "Green Book" for portraying a white character, in this film played by Viggo Mortensen, as the protagonist in a film about discrimination against black people. Numerous original complaints about the movie have been dredged up again in light of the film's Best Picture win.

Also backstage, King noted the broad support she received for her performance, but said of Hollywood that "we're still trying to get more reflective".

The 91st Academy Awards took place on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and it was an evening filled with emotions for the Oscar nominees. I still watch "Do the Right Thing" at least three times a year, as it is still one of the most referenced films in our culture.
