Trump to Americans: ‘Hold the Date’ for July 4. Twitter Blows Up

"HOLD THE DATE!" the president tweeted, referring to the country's long-established federal holiday commemorating the approval of the U.S. Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. The event is televised on PBS and draws hundreds of thousands that spills past the West Lawn of the Capitol and onto the National Mall, including the Lincoln Memorial.

The White House did not provide any additional details Sunday.

Fireworks and big displays of patriotism aren't exactly unheard of in Washington on the Fourth of July.

Some imagined what the president's event committee is planning next.

"We're thinking about doing on the Fourth of July or thereabouts a parade, a "Salute to America" parade".

Black Panther also won thrice : for Best Make-Up And Hairstyling, Best Production Design , and Best Original Score . After it was nominated, there was again uproar, with the Academy being accused of "forcing colour" into a category.

The president said a bonus will be fireworks at no extra charge because fireworks paid for by the National Park Service already illuminate the sky above the Washington Monument each year on the Fourth of July. Perhaps at the Lincoln Memorial.

Capturing the July Fourth scenes in the capital, in 1941, the Historical Society of D.C. noted, the Washington Star summed up the celebrations this way: "Sometimes it is three weeks after the Fourth before a man can use his cigarette lighter without holding it at arm's length for fear a ball of fire will run up his coat sleeve". There was no word Sunday on whether the July 4th event will include the military. "It will be a - really, a gathering, as opposed to a parade, I'd guess you'd have to say".

At the time, many took this as another plan for a military parade, which the president has asked for on many occasions.

Called America's National Independence Day Parade, it goes through the heart of downtown Washington, consisting "of invited bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams, VIP's, national dignitaries and celebrity participants", according to the parade's website. Among the Mall's largest gatherings in history are President Barack Obama's 2009 inauguration, which attracted more than 1 million people, and the 2017 Women's March on Washington, which drew 500,000.
