R Kelly pleads not guilty, female fans offer to pay his bail

Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County in a case involving four victims.

A judge on Saturday set bond at $1 million, requiring the Grammy Award-winning singer to pay 10 percent.

He has reportedly struggled to pay the $100,000 bail required to leave Cook County Jail.

Kelly's next court date was set for March 22.

R. Kelly's attorney says arrangements are being made to pay the R&B singer's $100,000 bail to free him while he awaits trial for aggravated sexual abuse.

Under the terms of his bond, Kelly must surrender his passport and is forbidden from having contact with anyone under the age of 18.

The eviction process began in July 2018 when the landlord, Midwest Commercial Funding LLC, said Kelly defaulted on the lease by initially failing to pay more than $79,000 in rent. Kelly was dressed in an orange jail jumpsuit, but no handcuffs, and was flanked by three sheriff's deputies as he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Kelly, who has been dogged for years by accusations of sexual misconduct of underage girls and women, was charged Friday in four separate indictments. "He was surprised. Then Saturday, by the time we went to bond court, banks were closed", Greenberg said.

Michael Avenatti, an attorney representing one of the victims, tweeted Monday morning that he has uncovered a new video of Kelly sexually assaulting a minor.

The alleged abuse took place over 12 years, Cook County State's Attorney Kimberly Foxx said. One of Kelly's best-known hits is "I Believe I Can Fly".

Kelly's alleged victims were "among the most vulnerable in our society. girls that came from very tough times and tough neighborhoods", Avenatti said.

Greenberg said he had braced for the possibility that bail could be higher than $1 million, but was pleased when Judge John Fitzgerald Lyke Jr. arrived at the amount he did.

After the hearing, Greenberg told reporters that Kelly did not force anyone to have sex.

According to TMZ, the tape, a 55-minute VHS video, allegedly shows Kelly having sex with the same 14-year-old girl depicted in the first video that Avenatti handed over to authorities. The 10 charges are all Class 2 felonies in IL, including a probational offense that carries a potential sentence of 3-7 years.
