Eyewitnesses to the incident reported as many as 10 gunshots being fired during the incident outside Westlake Recording Studio in west Hollywood, Los Angeles. He was outside the studio when it went down and multiple shots were fired.

Rich the Kid reached No 2 in the United States charts a year ago with his debut album The World is Yours, which featured the hit single Plug Walk. Eye witnesses say the man who opened fire was running away from the studio when he started shooting behind him.

However members of his entourage were fired on, and at least one bodyguard was pistol whipped by an attacker in broad daylight.

Usher was in the studio but was not harmed.

Police are now searching for suspects.

Four hours ago Rich the Kid posted a picture to his instagram page holding wads of cash with the caption "for motivational purposes only". The other is covered by a cast.

Police have responded to the scene and are actively looking for the supects who made off with a large sum of cash and jewelry.

When Rich the Kid put up a fight, three more men entered the home and began attacking the rapper as well.

Westlake Recording Studio has attracted major names from the music industry for decades, including Madonna, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Michael Jackson.
