Baltimore Ravens to trade Joe Flacco to Denver Broncos

Joe Flacco is Colorado bound.

The Baltimore Ravens have reached a tentative trade agreement with the Denver Broncos to send former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Flacco to Denver, according to a person familiar with the situation. The new league year does not officially begin until March 13, however, so the trade can not be finalized until that time. Teams are not allowed to comment on a deal or the terms surrounding it, per Schefter.

It remains to be seen what the Broncos gave up in exchange for Flacco, but ESPN reports that it likely will be for a mid-round pick. Flacco had $8 million in bonuses each for 2019 and 2020, which the Ravens will have to eat upon trading him.

Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos finished the season at 6-10 behind veteran QB Case Keenum, who is due $18 million for 2019 with $7 million of that fully guaranteed. Flacco's quarterback rating hasn't risen above 90 since the 2014 season.

Trade talks between Baltimore and Denver commenced Monday and culminated Wednesday morning, when the Broncos agreed to the deal for Flacco, the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII. A trade is similar to cutting a player in that it pushes all the prorated bonus money normally spread out over the life of a contract to right now.

He was a first-round pick of the Ravens in 2008.
