Renault launch 2019 auto intent on reeling in F1 big three

Renault has unveiled its 2019 Formula 1 package, the R.S.19, as it strives to break clear of the midfield and edge closer towards its long-term title goal. "Then we want to target engine excellence, while we give a bit of time to (the factory at) Enstone to deliver a race-winning chassis".

Renault finished fourth previous year, still a long way behind reigning champions Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, but with its engines winning four races in the back of the latter team's cars.

Engine chief Remi Taffin is confident Renault can start cutting the performance gap this year. We should have the motorhome and the coffee machine working but that's as far as I'm 100% sure.

Australian Ricciardo ended his lengthy association with Red Bull to make his surprise move to Renault.

The acquisition of Daniel Ricciardo set off a chain of driver changes in F1, as along with Pierre Gasly replacing him at Red Bull, Kimi Raikkonen and Charles Leclerc swapped teams from Ferrari to Sauber and vice-versa, while rookies such as George Russell and Lando Norris will be making their debuts in 2019.

Renault has grown in numbers and spent heavily on equipment, bringing in new resources including two Breton 1500 matrix dynamic machine tools at around $1 million each within the previous year.

"We've invested a lot in Enstone and we ill be investing in Viry." he added. "We know them and understand them and had time to put in place a structure", he said. "And therefore being able to react quicker than before", Abiteboul said.

The 2019 season is supposed to be a big one for the team, as they have invested in Daniel Ricciardo, and would be hoping that the Aussie can help them to a few podium finishes this season. "We want to reduce the gap to the frontrunners".

"The ambition is there - from ninth to sixth to fourth says it in itself - but there is no sense of complacency; there is big excitement and that motivates me".
