OH teen defies mother, gets vaccinated for first time at 18

He never had the experience of going to the pediatrician, getting pricked in the arm with a needle and then receiving a lollipop or ice cream cone afterward.

On Monday, Lindenberger appeared on CNN's Anderson Cooper Full Circle and said that despite not getting vaccinated, he never contracted chickenpox or measles.

Lindenberger first crowdsourced advice on how and where to get vaccinated in a Reddit post on November 16, 2018. "He continued, "I was just blown away that you know, the largest health organization in the entire world would be written off with a kind of conspiracy theory-like statement like that", adding that his mother 'kind of fell into this echo chamber, and got more and more misinformation".

"I am writing because I am the 15-year-old son of an anti-vaccine parent", reads a plea posted on Reddit four months ago. "My parents think vaccines are some kind of government scheme", the teen wrote on Reddit when he first made a decision to reach out for guidance. About a month later, the post was updated to announce that he got his vaccines.

Wheeler. who said that records showing Ethan getting two shots in 2002 are mistaken, that he only got a shot for tetanus after he cut himself, has some odd ideas of her own, asserting, "Polio, if you really research polio, it was nearly completely eradicated, nearly gone, there was nearly no cases of polio when they introduced the oral vaccine".

Ethan said, "I'm a very obedient child".

It doesn't tell us a whole lot to be honest, other than the fact Samsung will have some foldable phone news to share with us. Samsung has dropped a teaser video on Twitter with the caption "The future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019".

His journey to get vaccinated, however, stemmed from him wanting to protect others against diseases as much as himself. "My parents are very happy that I'm continuing to express that the importance of a vaccine is beyond just me and other people, and I'm glad to share that story".

Lindenberger says he hopes his siblings draw their own conclusion about the issue. "There's a distinguishing difference between disagreeing with a parent and trying to disobey with them out of spite". Now that he's 18, Lindenberger is making headlines for his decision to defy his mother and get vaccinated, reports USA Today.

Mounting distrust has led some parents to not immunize their children, in turn leading to outbreaks of diseases not seen in years, such as measles, whooping cough and mumps.

There is no federal law mandating children be immunized, but only seven states - including Arkansas -and Washington D.C. allow minors to get vaccinations without parental consent.

"Vaccines, from a public health perspective, are safe, effective and they've been studied over and over again and have not shown any links to any adverse events". Vaccines are one of the top 10 public health achievements of the last century for the number of lives they've saved.

Washington state has become a battleground between anti-vaccine groups pushing for relaxed regulations and concerned parents watching a measles outbreak strike the Pacific Northwest, a well-documented anti-vaccination refuge.
