New Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition Shows Orange Paint, Alcantara Interior

Mazda Motors North America President Masahiro Moro introduces the 30th anniversary limited-edition Mazda MX-5 Miata in Chicago.

After 30 years and more than 1 million units sold, Mazda feels that the MX-5 has grown into more than simply Mazda's creation. And why present that vehicle at the Chicago Auto Show, known historically for the innumerable truck models that have gotten their baptism there?

The new 2019 30 anniversary Mazda MX-5 is based on the GT trim with the soft top or is RF guise which brings with it a maximum of equipment and features. But if you absolutely must have this paint color and interior trim, be aware that Mazda has a habit of adding special-edition paint colors to their regular production palette the following model year.

What can only be described as an online stampede for the 30th Anniversary Edition took place shortly after Mazda started accepting orders following the car's debut at the Chicago Auto Show this week.

Amazingly, it's 30 years since the MX-5 was launched in 1989, and Mazda weren't going to let that pass without an anniversary model.

Besides giving it a unique orange paintjob, as well as a cool set of alloy wheels, Mazda was also busy making tweaks on the chassis and suspension. "Yellow is good match for sports cars, but rather than simply reusing this color, this new orange evokes sunrise and anticipation to celebrate the future of MX-5".

Inside, there are heated Recaro seats, orange accents (including piping), a 9-speaker Bose audio system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

All cars get a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 181bhp driven to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Just 3,000 models will be sold globally - and the United Kingdom has been allocated 600 units from that figure. If you want the soft top, it'll be $34,995, and if you want the RF, you're looking at $37,595.
