With Pep Guardiola explaining the complicated nature of his injury at a press conference, he was then asked why Mendy was now in Hong Kong.

The World Cup-winning Manchester City full-back has had his fair share of injury trouble since arriving in England from Monaco in 2017, suffering another setback after he came off the bench in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at the end of January.

With the hashtag #WheresMendy, the France global raised more eyebrows over his location in a Twitter post which appeared to suggest he was in Dubai. "Yesterday he was in Barcelona", said Guardiola.

Guardiola confirmed that Mendy will be unavailable for Sunday's match against Chelsea, adding: "His injury is not easy". "He needs to re-adapt, if you start training in two days you are fit, he has to handle the effort we are putting on him - he has to be careful". He said he was going to spend one day in Paris, but Hong Kong is far away! F*** he is a lucky guy.
