R. Kelly announces tour amid sex assault scandal

R Kelly has announced a tour of NZ, Sri Lanka and Australia.

The tour tweet was deleted following a backlash from Twitter users who urged fans not to buy concert tickets and criticized the announcement, pointing out the irony that "R. Kelly is going on tour instead of jail".

The hitmaker will head out on the road in Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka, according to a post on the singer's Instagram account.

R. Kelly, whose career is reeling from the longstanding sexual-misconduct allegations presented in Lifetime's harrowing documentary Surviving R. Kelly, has announced tour dates almost as far as geographically possible from the United States: in Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

He didn't list any of the dates or venues on the tour poster, only saying that the "King of R&B" will be "coming soon".

He was charged in 2002 with 21 counts of making child pornography, involving intercourse, oral sex, urination, and other sexual acts, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Thailand's Foreign Affairs Ministry said it had not been previously aware of al-Araibi's case and was not prejudiced against him. A chained al-Araibi yelled to reporters outside court as he was escorted by prison guards into Monday's hearing in Bangkok .

Kelly heads out on the overseas tour less than a month after the documentary, which featured Kelly's accusers, relatives, families, and industry insiders detailing more than 25 years of allegations against the singer that include physical, emotional and sexual abuse of women and underage girls.

Despite numerous allegations, Kelly has never been convicted of a crime, with a number of cases being settled out of court.

It was under those character requirements the Department of Home Affairs issued a "notice of intention to consider refusal of your visa" to whistleblower Chelsea Manning a year ago.

"Labor strongly supports the refusal or cancellation of visas of non-citizens on character or criminal grounds", the opposition party said in a statement to the BBC.

Kelly is a multiplatinum R&B star who has not only notched multiple hits for himself but also many high-profile performers.
