Bucks acquire Mirotic from Pelicans

He's headed to the Pelicans instead.

In what became a three-team deal between the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and New Orleans Pelicans, the team with the best record in the East attempted to beef up their shooting and big man rotation. Maker is still coming to Detroit, but Johnson is on his way to New Orleans, per National Basketball Association insider Kevin Smith.

Since Wednesday's deal was never made official, the Pelicans were able to jump in and alter the trade a bit, giving Milwaukee the ultimate prize but adding a plethora of picks to their cupboard of assets for the inevitable rebuild.

In exchange, New Orleans will receive the expiring contract of veteran big man Jason Smith and Stanley Johnson, who was traded to Milwaukee in exchange for Thon Maker on Wednesday.

Johnson, 22, was Detroit's first-round draft pick (eighth overall) in 2015.

This season, Mirotic is averaging 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists for New Orleans.

In Maker, the Pistons get another lottery pick who hasn't yet panned out.

Smith is now averaging 3.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Bucks, while Johnson is averaging 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
