Nine killed in Somali market vehicle bombing

In a statement, the militant group said it targeted a key meeting near Mogadishu mall with a auto bomb killing at least 8 people.

A Somali police officer says at least seven people died in a powerful auto bomb explosion in Somalia's capital on Monday.

A Reuters witness saw one dead person at the scene, where four cars burned and a restaurant was destroyed.

"We know that at least five people died in the blast but the death toll may rise", the officer said.

The Dubai government confirmed the death in a statement on Twitter and said the circumstances of the incident was being investigated.

Several people were wounded in the blast that occurred in Mogadishu's Hamarweyne district, a busy area with shops and restaurants, officials say.

The six-time All-Star recently asked to be traded, and reportedly gave New Orleans a list of four teams he'd sign with long term. That is if Davis coming wouldn't turn Leonard, who is almost impossible to get a read on, off from wanting to come there.

Senior police official Captain Mohamed Hussein also told the media at least nine people were also injured in the blast. "The terrorists parked a vehicle loaded with explosives in the vicinity of the mall to kill the innocent civilians".

The group is trying to remove the Western-backed central government and establish its own rule based on its strict interpretation of sharia law.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al Shabab frequently targets Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia against government and other installations.

The latest assault on the al-Shabaab group was intensified following the terror strike at DusitD2 Hotel complex in 14 Riverside Drive, Westlands, Nairobi.
