The Eagles' Nick Foles plan is coming into focus

The Eagles' Nick Foles plan is coming into focus

He led the Eagles to a 41-33 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII and was named MVP after completing 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

After the Philadelphia Eagles went home in disappointing fashion after a crushing loss in the Divisional Round to the New Orleans Saints, many knew Nick Foles had likely played his last game in an Eagles uniform. If Foles is in the top three of all free agents in annual average value, Philadelphia would be rewarded with a third round compensatory pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The first shoe in the dynamic just dropped, as Ian Rapoport is reporting that the team will pick up his $20 million mutual option. The story also indicates that the Eagles will exercise the $20 million option in Foles' contract.

"That opens up the door for the Eagles possibly franchise-tagging him and then trading him", Rapoport said on Saturday.

The likely scenario, according to Rapoport is Foles gives the team $2 million to become a free agent and the team franchise tags the quarterback before working with him on a trade.

Nick Foles might not be with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019, but the team isn't going to let him outright walk into free agency - or onto another team.

That's when things get complicated. Among possible destinations mentioned for Foles are the Jaguars, Dolphins, Broncos, Bengals and Redskins.
