Man arrested over Brisbane Airport ‘bomb threat’

A man has been charged after Brisbane Airport's global terminal was shut down when he allegedly threatened a woman with a knife.

Police have made a declaration under the Public Safety and Preservation Act tonight at Brisbane Airport due an emergency situation.

Police later sent an update saying that one man was taken into custody without any "reported injuries to any members of the public or police".

"There is no further information at this time", Queensland Police said in a statement.

The incident began just before 9pm (local time) on Saturday in the terminal's food court where the man allegedly pulled out a knife and placed a metal object on a table, claiming it was a bomb, after an argument with a woman.

Police will allege when they arrived they also located a suspicious device and proceeded to evacuate the area.

Police have cordoned off the global airport, with officers closing the approach roads.

An hour later, a Surfers Paradise auto park near where the man lives was cordoned off and the area evacuated, as police inspected a vehicle.

Brisbane Airport was reopened shortly after midnight, however passengers have been warned that delays are expected to continue well into Sunday.

It's understood a man produced a knife in the International Terminal and claimed to have explosives following a "domestic violence-related incident".

Authorities say the incident was not terrorism related but a domestic violence-related situation.

Officers first swooped on the Bruce Bishop Carpark about 9pm before establishing an exclusion zone around the area.
