Police discover tunnel leading from wooded area to Pembroke Pines bank

(FBI photo) A Pembroke Pines police officer looks into the hole that was first believed to be a pothole, but turned out to be something much more sinister.

FBI Special Agent Michael Leverock said the tunnel was 2 to 4 feet in diameter and at least 50 yards long. An electric generator and some electrical cords were found at the entrance of the tunnel.

"So, if somebody's been bragging about this, somebody's seen this wagon, seen a generator and some folks who are talking about a tunnel, certainly give us a call", Leverock said.

The FBI is investigating an underground tunnel in suburban Miami leading to a bank as an attempted robbery by an enterprising would-be thief.

Police used a remote control rover to follow the tunnel, which stretched under the road toward the drive-up window of the bank. (Joe Cavaretta/South Florida Sun Sentinel) The road next to the bank remained closed Thursday morning after being dug up to investigate the tunnel beneath.

Mr Leverock suggested whoever was digging the tunnel may have been working on the dig for months, saying it was not an "overnight job".

A Second Apple Employee Has Been Charged With Stealing ‘Project Titan’ Secrets
Instead, the worker claimed to be leaving the country to visit family rather than fleeing the USA with the secrets. The news comes after another Apple employee was accused of stealing trade secrets about the project in July 2018.

Police sent a cadaver dog into the hole to search for people but no one was found. They could have been here a week ago, last night.

Investigators told the Associated Press that the tunnel appeared to be dug with a pickaxe and wagon to transport the dirt and rock. "However, this hole is so small".

Investigators are continuing to dig to determine whether the tunnel extends further, he said, adding that they "haven't necessarily hit the end of it".

"I don't know how they did it". I would like to put it into words for you.

Leverock said they'll have a better idea of just how extensive the tunnel is after they remove some pavers.
