British to get visa-free travel in Europe even with no deal

In 1983 Gibraltar became a dependent overseas territory, only to be jigged around again to become a British overseas territory in 2002.Gibraltar has its own parliament but its head of state is the Queen.

The Government says the global legal status of Gibraltar is a matter of fact, pointing out that it is listed as a "non-self-governing territory" by the UN.

Meanwhile, the UK Government hit back after a document outlining the proposals described Gibraltar as a "colony of the British crown".

"Gibraltar is not a colony and it is completely inappropriate to describe it in this way".

The footnote, in a document about giving British travellers access to the EU's Schengen free movement area, said: "Gibraltar is a colony of the British crown".

One footnote inserted at the insistence of Spain has ruffled feathers, where the status of Gibraltar British citizens is discussed.

"The strong economic foundations we are putting in place through our modern Industrial Strategy are part of the reason the United Kingdom was recently rated the best place in the world for business, and saw more than £100 billion of Foreign Direct Investment in the last three years, more than France and Germany combined".

Britain had not raised specific objections to the wording in those cases, officials said, but was irritated by Spain's push to push the phrase and the sovereignty dispute into legislation in the present circumstances.

Google+ pages will shut down on April 2
When April rolls around, Google + will not only close down, but data associated with consumer accounts will start to be deleted. Apps and services that make use of Google + API, including Sign-in and OAuth, also have to mind their deadline.

For a short stay visit - up to 90 days out of any 180 days - Britons will still be allowed to travel throughout the EU's borderless Schengen area without a visa, European Union ambassadors agreed.

The IoD declared itself neutral ahead of Britain's referendum on its European Union membership in 2016 but it has warned since then of the potential costs of leaving the bloc.

Spain ceded Gibraltar to Britain in perpetuity in 1713.

Spain has already secured a right of veto over whether future Brexit arrangements can apply to Gibraltar.

The row comes amid reports that Spain will insist on excluding Gibraltar from all agreements between the United Kingdom and the European Union after Brexit.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has said the country intends to revive its bid for shared sovereignty over "The Rock".

It sets the basis for administrative cooperation for achieving full transparency in tax matters, fighting fraud, smuggling and money laundering.
