Trump breaks silence on Jussie Smollett attack

When a reporter asked Trump about the attack on Smollett, which police in Chicago are investigating as a hate crime, the president said he had seen reports about the incident and called them "horrible" before launching into a rant about undocumented immigration.

They have also released photographs from videos of two people walking in the area about the time of the attack in the hopes that those people can be located and provide them more information about what happened.

Smollett, who is gay and black, says two men beat him, hurled racial and homophobic insults at him, poured an "unknown chemical substance" on him and looped a rope around his neck before fleeing. "They are outside on a street walking", stated Guglielmi.

The president did not address that the actor's attackers allegedly yelled during the attack "this is MAGA country", a reference to Trump's 2016 campaign slogan. When officers arrived, the actor had cuts and scrapes on his face and the rope around his neck.

Smollett was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was in "good condition", according to People Tuesday. TMZ reports a neighbor of Smollett's said she saw a "redneck" hanging around outside of the building with a rope before the alleged assault.

Trump upbeat on US-China trade meetings
Trump has vetoed multiple proposed trade deals with China, choosing to push ahead with tariffs on Chinese goods to gain leverage. Last year, the Asian country recorded its slowest growth in almost 30 years, making the USA trade war an unwelcome development.

Donald Trump has at least something to say about the attack on Empire star Jussie Smollett.

In addition to his acting career, Smollett has a music career and is a noted activist, particularly on LBGTQ issues.

Representatives from Empire, the show Smollett is now on, were quick to share their condolences. Smollett's representative said his concert scheduled for Saturday in Los Angeles will go on as planned. Smollett has not spoken publicly about the attack, but his representative told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that the actor "is at home and recovering".

Now in its fifth season, the hourlong drama "Empire" follows an African-American family as they navigate the ups and downs of the record industry.

"We are taking this investigation very seriously and detective teams will broaden our search area and work around the clock to look for videos on traffic cameras, CTA buses, and neighboring thoroughfares which could have captured the offender's movements", they added.
