FaceTime bug lets iPhone users eavesdrop on persons they're calling

On its status page, the company states that Group FaceTime is now unavailable, likely to prevent users from exploiting the bug any further.

APPLE MIGHT BE HOT FOR PRIVACY, but a newly-uncovered FaceTime bug allowed anyone to call an iPhone or Mac and listen in before the other person picks up.

Apple announced the Group FaceTime feature last summer, but then removed it from early test versions of its iOS 12 operating system. In the menu bar click on "Facetime" and hit "Turn Off FaceTime". The Verge was able to reach an Apple spokesperson and Apple is aware of the issue with plans to release a software update later this week.

Anyone calling an iPhone user on FaceTime, Apple's video-calling service, can immediately listen to that phone's microphone before their call has been accepted or rejected.

Now you can answer for yourself on FaceTime even if they don't answer#Apple explain this. Users can also disable FaceTime on iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches in settings and on the Mac under the Preferences tab in the FaceTime application. Add your own number or Apple ID as another caller and FaceTime assumes a conference call has been initiated.

While it is not known who first discovered this bug, numerous people have been posting about it on social media and making video demonstrations as shown below.

As always, bugs happen, so all we can do is wait and see how well and quickly Apple fixes it.

If you and your mates are partial to a bit of FaceTime action every now and then, you might wanna hold off until Apple fixes its latest major bug.
