Lack of Press Briefings Ripped by White House Press Association

The briefings drew unprecedented media attention in the Trump era, as numerous cable news channels ran them live as Sanders shot down increasingly antagonistic reporters.

"The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the 'podium' much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press", the president tweeted Tuesday. The last press briefing occurred on December 18, 2018.

'Look, I don't think we're going to listen to her on much of anything, ' Sanders told host Sean Hannity when questioned about the Congresswoman's recent statement. Sanders has not provided an on-camera briefing for more than a month, including the duration of the partial government shutdown. "We need to hear more from the president, '" Gidley said on "America's Newsroom".

"It doesn't necessarily mean Sarah Sanders needs to be at the podium when the president is talking to the American people", Gidley added. "White House reporters have been aggressive with the press secretary of every WH, and they didn't flee from questions that needed answering".

"It's kind of ridiculous, you can't win for losing half the time", he continued.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he told White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to scale back press briefings because of rude and inaccurate coverage by reporters.

Spicer said he believes Trump has engaged with the press more often than previous presidents, through press sprays and gaggles, but he also said there is a objective to the press briefings that has been lost on many reporters.

"Looking like Nick Sandman & Covington Catholic students were treated unfairly with early judgements proving out to be false - smeared by media", Trump tweeted. "A very sad day for journalism, but a great day for our Country!" On January 3, Mr Trump himself made a surprise appearance - his first at the briefing room podium - to deliver a statement on border security, but took no questions.

Trump frequently addresses the media in impromptu press conferences outside the White House before traveling places.
