British PM Theresa May trying to break Brexit deadlock

The Prime Minister is seeking to revive her deal with Brussels after it was overwhelmingly rejected by MPs last week in an historic defeat.

The head of the British has government returned to the Parliament with a Plan B after the Brexit agreement, negotiated by London and Brussels, was rejected last week by the House of Commons in a 432-202 vote. And she insisted that it had.

However she did announce that the £65 fee for European Union citizens to secure the right to live in United Kingdom after Brexit will be scrapped after outcry from campaign groups.

It was the largest defeat for a sitting British government in history.

Jeremy Corbyn refused to meet with the PM unless she took "no deal" off the table.

The party, which is divided over Brexit, said the proposal did not mean that it supported a second vote and merely reflected its existing policy.

The First Minister said she would reveal details of her timetable for a second independence referendum within a "matter of weeks".

The original Whips office calculation was that it could need 25/30 or so Labour MPs to backfill hardline ERG supporters whose problems with the deal went beyond the backstop.

So you want the European Union to be a bigger loser than the UK?

But Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney said Sunday that he and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar were in no mood to support alterations to the withdrawal agreement (WA) or the backstop.

"She wants to offer a bilateral treaty to Ireland that would remove the hated "backstop" from the European Union withdrawal treaty and prevent a hard border by other means", the weekly broadsheet said.

Poland's foreign minister has said he is proposing limiting the Irish backstop to five years in order to unblock the Brexit deadlock, according to media reports.

Although there is some openness to delaying Brexit by a few months, European leaders have repeatedly said the deal May presented to Parliament last week, painfully negotiated over several months, was the best they could offer.

Pressed whether there was any scope for a bilateral deal between the United Kingdom and Ireland, he responded: "We are one team".

It is understood she will focus on the possibility of changes to the backstop mechanism, created to ensure there's no hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, if a broader trade deal can not be agreed.

"It would obviously be less favourable for Ireland than an indefinite backstop, but much more advantageous than no-deal Brexit".

He also stressed it was important that there wasn't a hard border in Ireland, while making reference to a bomb that exploded Saturday night in the center of Londonderry, Northern Ireland. On Tuesday it was reported that dozens of ministers could otherwise resign.

Asked if he would change the Brexit deal, Slovakia´s Miroslav Lajcak said: "Why?"

The Government will consult the Commons on its negotiating mandate and will regularly update the House during talks, she promised. "We will not be dragged out of Europe by a Tory government we did not vote for", Mr Blackford said.

"Sympathy, patience and readiness to wait until the UK's position will be clarified are of utmost important to avoid the worst", warned Mr Altmaier.

Responding to Schinas' comments, British Prime Minister Theresa May's spokesman said Britain would do everything it could to prevent a hard border.
