'Super blood wolf moon' eclipse to darken skies

'Super blood wolf moon' eclipse to darken skies

"Super" and "blood" refer to what will be the moon's strikingly big profile in the sky that night - due to its close proximity to Earth - and the reddish tinge that will envelop it as the eclipse occurs. As the light passes through the atmosphere it gets bent toward the moon. Sadly most of New Zealand will miss out - with the eclipse being only visible in the top half of the North Island at moon set, Nasa predicts. Sunday night, skygazers in the Tampa Bay area will be front-row center for the first total eclipse of the moon in almost three years. This year, the moon will be high in the sky, which makes it the best chance to watch an eclipse in years.

Once the eclipse is over on Sunday you won't get another glimpse of a Super Blood Wolf Moon until November 8, 2022.

"During the total phases, the moon will be in the south west part of the sky - roughly where the summer sun would be in mid-afternoon".

With the "blood moon" part of the eclipse, Brian Murphy, director of Indiana's Holcomb Observatory & Planetarium and Butler University professor said although the moon is in Earth's shadow, some sunlight still reaches the moon. That mean that when the moon is at its closest point to Earth - known as the perigee - it can appear up to 17 percent larger than it does at the farthest point in its orbit.

China accomplishes historic first as seeds sprout inside lunar lander mini-habitat
Last night, they announced their first breakthrough publishing a picture of cotton seed, bought up on Chang'e 4 actually growing. In the coming months, Chang'e 4 will continue to carry out scientific observations across the less understood side of the moon.

All that dry, cold air will sweep away rain clouds just in time for most of the Carolinas to get a good view of a "super moon" combined with a total lunar eclipse just before midnight. "It not only is a supermoon and it's a total eclipse, but the total eclipse also lasts pretty long". Day - off, so have no worries about staying up late howling at the SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON. Most colors on the spectrum are blocked, but red usually makes it through, effectively projecting all of Earth's sunrises and sunsets onto the moon's surface like a celestial cinema. It could also take on little to no color, he said.

Sunday will mark the final time a lunar eclipse and a supermoon occur at the same time until May 2021.

All week the Central Florida Astronomical Society has been celebrating Moon Week, and Sunday's culmination is this viewing party in honor of the SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON!
