Serena Williams wears fishnet stocking to Australian Open

Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, arguably two of the greatest female tennis players of all time, offered completely different reactions to their emotional opponents after their Australian Open matches.

Seventh seed Karolina Pliskova, who has made the quarter-finals in her last two appearances at Melbourne Park, went through, as did American Madison Keys, who reached the semis at the French and US Open previous year. She was set to match up against Anastasia Potapova on Wednesday.

Williams, 37, has won 23 majors so far over a storied career and is gunning to match Court's mark at the Melbourne Open on the Australian's home territory.

The first set was delicately poised in the tiebreaker when Azarenka took control, but Siegemund said she "took time out and I reset myself" in the break and regained control of the match. She had a lot of medical issues after the delivery but she definitely was not 100 percent. "I had to work hard to win this one and I'm extremely pleased". Believe it or not, the match ended 6-0, 6-2 in only 49 minutes! What would she think of his recent comments that on-court coaching should be allowed at Grand Slams in the future?

In the third round, Barty will meet Maria Sakkari of Greece, who triumphed in straight sets over Australian qualifier Astra Sharma 6-1, 6-4 later in the day.

Zverev beat Federer and Novak Djokovic on his way to winning the season-ending tournament at London's O2 Arena at the end of a year ago.

"I have so many good memories of the last time I was here, honestly, it's just literally the best win of my career". "It's a little bit toasty but it's really handsome here". Thousands more, as this tweet points out, than a world-renowned tennis player.

Elsewhere, 15th seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev went through in three sets while 12th seeded Italian Fabio Fognini beat Spain's Jaume Munar, who retired with cramps while two sets down.

The temperature was already 86 degrees when play began on all courts shortly after 11 a.m. local time and it rose to 91 by the early afternoon.
