Warriors score NBA-record 51 in 1st quarter to crush Nuggets

It's not often that a team scores 38 points in the first quarter and finds themselves trailing by double-digits.

Golden State shot a blistering 60 percent from the field, had 38 assists and hit 21 3-pointers in leading wire-to-wire.

The Warriors, who set the record for the most points scored in the 1st quarter, shot a staggering 60% (57-of-95) from the field and 54% (21-of-39) from three-point range. Durant finished with 27 points and Draymond Green was a plus-41 as he had 13 assists to go with four points. The Warriors are 29-14 overall, 12-8 on the road, 18-25 against the spread and 23-20 with the over.

Slowing the Warriors' offense: Golden State averages the second most points in the league at 117.4 a night. Kevin Durant poured in 17 points with three 3-pointers, Klay Thompson dropped 13 points on three 3-pointers, and Steph Curry had 12 points on four 3-pointers.

It was a battle between the two best teams in the Western Conference, but the Nuggets - the top seed before the lopsided loss - didn't stand a chance from the get-go in the the defending champions' incredible shooting showcase.

"They have won multiple world championships for a reason and they sent a message tonight", Denver coach Michael Malone said.

The edge of the Warriors has looked considerably sharper ever since, and that was enough for them to leave the Nuggets in a heap in their own house.

Golden State didn't let up in the third quarter.

The Nuggets have a very strong defense, allowing just 105.5 points per game while limiting opponents to 33.2 percent from the arc.

"I don't believe in flushing games when you get your (expletive) kicked", Malone said.

Nuggets: G Gary Harris missed a fifth straight game with tightness in his left hamstring.

National Basketball Association teams piled up the points like they hadn't done in 35 years. The Nuggets give the Warriors some trouble and they struggle to deal with Jokic.

Thompson and former teammate Zaza Pachulia, now with Detroit, are keeping track of who has the most dunks. "Felt better than hitting 10 3s, to be honest". Denver has beaten the Bulls 11 straight times at Pepsi Center.
