Arsenal make move to sign James Rodriguez from Bayern

The German was left out of the matchday squad entirely for Saturday's 1-0 defeat to West Ham United, with Emery intimating after the match that he did not deserve to play.

The Colombian global is predominantly a central attacking midfielder but he can also play on either wing if needed so he'd give Emery plenty of options in the final third if we did manage to lure him to the Emirates.

Emery's interest in Rodriguez, comes amid speculations that he is willing to sanction Mesut Ozil's exit this month.

Emery's decision is reportedly for two reasons: because he views Ozil as dispensable and wants to free up some transfer funds.

The move would involve Arsenal paying a loan fee to Real Madrid - who have loaned Rodriguez to Bayern on a two-year deal which ends this season - to have him at the Emirates Stadium until the end of the present campaign.

And with Bayern's sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, claiming "they will look to draw the right conclusions" over Rodriguez this month - it seems likely they will be open to the premature exit.

The Gunners are hopeful of agreeing a loan move for the remainder of the season with an option to buy in the summer for around £18million.

If Arsenal can sell him off in time then they would finally get the money to bring in the much-needed signings.

El Gol Digital reports that Atletico are looking to offer Ozil an escape route with an £18m approach.
