Trump, following explosive news reports, denies he worked for Russian Federation

Former FBI Director James Comey speaks to reporters on Capitol Hill Washington, Dec. 17, 2018, after a second closed-door interview with two Republican-led committees investigating what they say was bias at the Justice Department before the 2016 presidential elections. (Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson did attend that meeting.) You'll recall that Trump was also later revealed to have had a long private conversation with Putin at the official G20 banquet.

Trump has repeatedly withheld details of his conversations with Putin, according to current and former US officials, a practice that has left officials blind to the dynamic between the two leaders and intensified questions within the administration over the president's actions. He said among other issues, they talked about security for Israel and construction of a controversial natural gas pipeline from Russian Federation to Germany. "The Trump-Putin connection doesn't pass the smell test".

"That is disgraceful to have no evidence and to be investigating the president of the United States", said King.

That was reportedly passed to the current special counsel, Robert Mueller, but it isn't clear whether the counterintelligence question - Was Trump working on behalf of Russian Federation? - remains part of the broader investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

When Pirro asked if he had ever worked for Russia, Trump said it was "the most insulting thing I've ever been asked".

Mr. Trump spent the snowy weekend in Washington lashing out on Twitter and Fox News against Democrats, and over explosive reports in the Washington Post and New York Times raising further questions about his relationship with the Kremlin. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russian Federation or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow's influence. He added , "I have been FAR tougher on Russian Federation than Obama, Bush or Clinton. Trump has repeatedly and vociferously denied collusion with the Russians.

On Sunday, Cruz told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the media's focus on special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russia's campaign to disrupt the 2016 US presidential election is just another example of the disconnect between most of the nation and its capital.

Several administration officials asked the interpreter what had been discussed.

Earlier, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said in a statement that in the coming weeks his panel "will take steps to better understand both the president's actions and the FBI's response to that behavior".

"We had a great conversation", he said.

For opponents of the president, there are no innocent explanations for Trump's actions, which are possible evidence that Trump has colluded with Russian Federation, a question at the heart of the special counsel inquiry.

Mueller is believed to be nearing the end of his investigation and is expected to write a report on his findings.
