Police responding to active shooter at UPS facility in New Jersey

A man reportedly entered the UPS facility and fired shots into the ceiling before taking his ex-girlfriend and another person hostage, law enforcement sources tell NBC New York.

Cops said two people have been taken hostage.

On Monday, officers in New Jersey responded to an active shooter at a UPS facility in Logan Township.

Authorities responded to a report of an active shooter at the UPS facility in Logan Township around 8:30 the SWAT team was activated to head to the warehouse on the 200 block of Birch Creek Road. Hostage negotiators began talking to the gunman by phone as he held the women in a barricaded room.

But, he added , "we also know that those fighting alongside of us for all this time deserve to be protected as well". It also prompted the resignation of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and drew criticism in Congress.

UPS said it's working with law enforcement, which is responding to a supply chain processing facility in Logan Township, Gloucester County.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, local media said.

"We do have an incident", he said. "We can not provide information about the identity of people involved at this time", the company said in a statement.

Nearby schools have been put on lockdown while cops investigate the potential threat. They said that all pupils and students are safe.
