Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle Brandon Mebane said that his 7-week-old daughter Makenna died Thursday.

According to ESPN, Mebane said his wife and kids are now in Los Angeles and that he plans to play in the team's AFC divisional matchup against the New England Patriots.

In Los Angeles right now, it's 52 degrees with the sun out.

Mebane's daughter was born on November 12th but she didn't have a heart valve, which needed surgery.

The New England Patriots came up short in their latest bid for a Lombardi Trophy nearly a year ago, and while they're back in the playoff picture, another first-round bye week in the books, they've got maybe the most talented team in the AFC standing in their way. "No matter where I am, I still think about her".

Mebane told USA Tday for a December 21 story that Chargers owner Dean Spanos let him use his private plane to get there for the surgery.

Mebane, his wife Amena and their two children Mahailey and Makai stayed in Omaha, Nebraska, receiving medical assistance after the birth of Makenna.
