Manafort shared Trump polling information with Ukrainian affiliate throughout 2016 marketing campaign

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort reportedly tried to share polling data from the 2016 presidential campaign with a pair of Ukrainian oligarchs who owed him $2.4 million. This fact was revealed this week when Manafort's lawyers filed court documents that were improperly redacted.

"This shows that Bob Mueller can demonstrate to a court, without the testimony of Paul Manafort, that the campaign had a connection to Russian intelligence and the connection involved information going from the campaign to the Russians", Napolitano said.

Trump, asked by the New York Post in November whether he was considering a pardon Manafort, said that he "wouldn't take it off the table". Citing Manafort's electronic communications, the special counsel said he had remained in touch with Trump aides, including a May 26, 2018, text exchange that came months after his initial indictment authorizing a "person to speak with an administration official on Manafort's behalf". What is new is that Mueller thinks that Manafort is still lying about it.

If not, the Trump administration would be accused of abandoning an ally to a grim fate. While the USA military pullout is now officially underway it has made a slow start.

Giuliani also said on Wednesday that Trump's legal team told Mueller that the president will not answer any more questions in the investigation.

They also defended their client's recollections of his meetings with Kilimnik, a Russian-Ukrainian citizen who served as his key representative on the ground in Ukraine during a series of political campaigns in which Manafort served as a highly paid consultant. He referred Reuters to Schiff's statement that lawmakers on the committee "need to find out" about Manafort's interaction with Kilimnik on polling data. Manafort pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy charges related to that Ukraine work, and had agreed to cooperate truthfully with Mueller's team.

Manafort, who ran the Trump campaign from March to August 2016, was convicted last August of eight counts of financial fraud in federal court in Virginia.
