USA bus driver rescues child found wandering barefoot

A Milwaukee bus driver rescued a barefoot baby boy running alone near a highway, clad only in a onesie in freezing temperatures.

Bus driver Irena Ivic had started her morning just like any other when she was shocked to see the baby boy on the side of the road in Milwaukee in the U.S. state of Wisconsin in December.

Ivic stopped her bus and darted across the busy street to pick up the child, who was crying. A passenger on Ivic's bus gave up her coat to keep the infant warm while they waited for firefighters, police and transit security officers to arrive, WISN-TV reports.

The video also shows Ivic, driving her bus as normal, then suddenly stopping it, as she spots the child wandering close to the road. "I am shaking", Ivic said in the video as she sat down in the driver's seat with the baby. The baby was unharmed.

Irena Ivic-Drobnjak is being praised for her immediate action which may have saved the child's life.

Carrying the toddler in her arms, she brings the child into her vehicle. The little one soon fell asleep in her arms, as seen in the video. "Authorities eventually reunited the baby with its father", Sliker said.

Police said the boy's mother left him outside, according to MCTS.

This is the ninth lost or missing child who has been found by MCTS drivers in recent years.

"I used to be a teacher and I have children of my own, so I'm so happy I was able to help this sweet, innocent baby", Ivic said.
