Rajinikanth on Petta box office success: All praise goes to Karthik Subbaraj

RMM joint-secretary Suryakumar Vijayan, 36, told Tamil Murasu: "Petta is a movie for Rajini fans, made by a Rajini fan (director Karthik Subbaraj)". While fans can not contain their excitement watching their Superstar in an ultra-stylish avatar after a long time, many celebrities have taken to social media to praise the superstar for his performance in the movie and shower their best wishes on Rajinikanth and team Petta. Director Karthik Subbaraj has reportedly delivered on the promise.

However, the movie could not match up to the opening day collections of 2.0 and Kaala.

Superstar Rajinikanth's "Petta" got off to a roaring start across Tamil Nadu with his fans celebrating by turning up to watch the first day, first show at early hours of Thursday while two couples tied the knot right outside the cinema halls in Chennai and Thanjavur. Petta has also performed better than Viswasam at the Chennai market, which was expected as maximum screens were alloted to the Rajinikanth starrer. On the other hand, Ajith, who was last seen in the 2017 blockbuster Vivegam, is all set to entertain the audience with an out-and-out commercial potboiler Viswasam.

The first major release of 2019 are two big Tamil ventures Petta and Viswasam, which arrived yesterday at the ticket windows. Petta has seemingly overtaken Viswasam by a decent margin. It features the ensemble star cast of Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Simran Bagga, Bobby Simha, Megha Akash, Sanath Reddy and Nawazuddin Siddiqi.
