Google Assistant coming to Sonos One, Beam and 'earlier' speakers

Google Assistant coming to Sonos One, Beam and 'earlier' speakers

In an effort to streamline the process, Google will be launching the Assistant Connect platform.

Assistant's new travel features are USA -focused for now, with the flight check-in feature rolling out for domestic United Airlines flights first, and the hotel booking tool similarly limited to Americans through hotel and travel partners including Choice Hotels, InterContinental Hotels, Priceline, Expedia, and Travelclick. Google says the Assistant will essentially handle all the "higher-order" computing, making it much easier for device manufacturers to make smart gadgets without needing to build all the headroom for actually implementing a full-on Assistant experience. There are no details as to which older speakers will be updated to include Google Assistant support but our fingers are crossed for all Sonos owners.

In addition, the smart speakers and smart screens of Google Home will feature a new translation mode called "Interpreter".

Real-time machine-assisted translated conversations are becoming increasingly popular, though options are still limited.

Google has been demoing the feature at the American show and is branding the function as a way to have conversation with people from other nationalities, even if you are not fluent in their spoken language.

Google stated the feature will arrive on Google Home devices "over the next few weeks". That extends functionality from Google's Pixel phones to the larger Android ecosystem, a Google rep told me, with any Android device capable of running Assistant being able to take advantage of the new feature.

India's lower house passes citizenship bill that excludes Muslims
The bill is likely to come up in the Lok Sabha tomorrow which is the scheduled last day of the winter session of Parliament. The AGP had entered into an alliance with the BJP before the 2014 polls and was opposed to the Bill since the beginning.

The smart clock, which is slated to go on sale in the spring, marks Google's latest foray into smart displays.

These include Dish's "Hopper" receivers, auto adapters from Anker and JBL, connected TVs from Samsung, and a smart display from KitchenAid. It uses the existing smart home platform to expand to new device types.

Along with these updates, Anker and JBL are launching smart accessories that help drivers better utilize the Assistant while driving.

Saying "Google, check into my flight" will do the trick, presumably if you've got the flight stored on your calendar. Additionally, Google Assistant will also alert if your flight is ready for Web check-in. The ability to check into flights is rolling out for domestic United Airlines flights first, just like the hotel booking tool.

This is not all, Assistant can now also book hotels for you.

It rolled out new integrations with Google Maps, where users can operate the app hands-free with just their voice.
