Kevin Hart ‘responds’ to Oscars backlash

The Friday appearance on the daytime show seemed to be an attempt to make amends and apologize to the LGBTQ community for the Philadelphia native's past remarks on homosexuality, which included threats of violence toward his son if he were to identify as gay.

Kevin Hart was originally asked to host this year's Oscars awards show.

The comedian continued: "If you don't want to accept people for their change, then where are you trying to get to the equal part? I apologize", Hart said on his Sirius XM radio show, "Straight from the Hart", according to ABC News.

It remains to be seen whether Kevin Hart will be offered the Oscars hosting job again, but we do know that Ellen has forgiven him, apparently on behalf of all queer people around the world. DeGeneres spoke to Hart about the social media uproar and attempted to convince him to not let "haters" take an accomplishment away from him.

Kevin added, "I'm not debating right from wrong". I've already stated it's wrong. But, the other side of it is this: "If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality, that's the fight", he explained. If the fight from the LGBTQ community is equality, that's the fight. "You can't change without a understanding of what GROWTH means". "Trust me when I tell you that you have to hear this". Where does the equality part come in?

Variety exclusively reported on Friday that the Academy is open to Hart returning as Oscars host. "I'm sure they'll make a decision soon", he said.

The controversy surrounding Hart and the questions about whether the Oscar telecast will try going host-less this year was the talk of the red carpet at Sunday's Golden Globes.

The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday (January 4) where the chat-show urged him to rethink his decision not to host next month's ceremony, which is now host-less.

Ellen revealed she had spoken to Academy bosses and asked Kevin if he would consider returning to host, a conversation that sparked a backlash from members of the gay community, including top USA newsman Don Lemon, who said the star had failed to atone sufficiently for his past remarks. And I'm glad that it was as authentic and real as I could have hoped that it would be.

Since then, there hasn't been any word from the Academy, with Deadline reporting that their, "highly reliable sources" indicating that no one in Hollywood is interested in hosting, after the, 'Hart debacle'. "Let me assess, just sit in the space and really think, and you and I will talk before anything else".
