Apple branches out with iTunes, AirPlay 2 for third-party TVs

Traditionally Apple have been very guarded about their playground and particularly not let others in their sandbox, but at CES Samsung have dropped the bombshell which gives them (in the short term at least) exclusive access to the iTunes based content outside of the Apple ecosystem.

This is the first time Apple has opened up its closely-guarded walled garden and allowed third-party home entertainment devices to access iTunes video content. Samsung Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 Smartphones Likely To Be Launched at Rs 9500 & Rs 15,000 Respectively - Report.

The 2018 Samsung smart TV range will receive the app after a firmware update. As for folks with older Samsung TVs, you might also be able to take advantage of the new integration of Apple services.

Guardiola hails the importance of De Bruyne
It summed it up when I told my right-back to smile when Sterling came off and Sane came on. Hopefully, in the last part of the season he is able to help us because we need him.

Meanwhile, AirPlay 2 will come to Samsung televisions in 190 countries, letting users stream music and video from iPhones, iPads and iTunes running on a desktop computer. Samsung confirmed today that it will be offering iTunes Movies and TV Shows as well as AirPlay 2 support on 2019 models starting this spring.

Apple showed signs of loosening its grip in November when it announced that Amazon's (AMZN) Echo devices would support Apple Music. A partnership with Samsung could help it get that service in front of more eyeballs, including people who might not own Apple phones or tablets. Because the new feature works in tandem with HomeKit, if you have multiple AirPlay 2 TVs, you'll be able to specify the room in which you want the video to play. And as The Verge pointed out, this might discourage owners from purchasing Apple TV streaming devices, and thus hurt Apple's bottom line a bit. It's possible that the iTunes movies and TV shows app will be revamped to include this in the near future.

But what we're most excited about is the AirPlay 2 compatibility. The app has not been announced for LG, Vizio, or any other non-Apple smart TV platform, and is a significant boon for Samsung TVs.
