ITunes movies and TV shows coming to Samsung 2019 TVs

Today Samsung announced a deal to bring iTunes and AirPlay 2 to Samsung TVs In 2019. "Samsung customers will be able to effortlessly play videos, photos, music, podcasts and more from Apple devices directly to Samsung Smart TVs, including QLED 4K and 8K TVs, The Frame and Serif lifestyle TVs, as well as other Samsung UHD and HD models", says Samsung. "With the new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app on Samsung Smart TVs, Samsung customers can access their existing iTunes library and browse the iTunes Store to buy or rent from a selection of hundreds of thousands of movies and TV episodes a" including the largest selection of 4K HDR movies. Samsung's 2018 and 2019 smart TVs are getting iTunes and support for AirPlay 2.

The two companies who are fierce rivals in the smartphone market are coming together to launch an iTunes app and Airplay 2 on select Samsung Smart TVs. Samsung has long struggled to create its own content services, and in recent years made a decision to instead rely on partnerships with companies like Spotify, Google and now Apple. The iTunes app will offer access to users movies and TV shows in over 100 countries. Another interesting announcement is that iTunes Movies and TV Shows will work seamlessly with Samsung's Smart TV Services, such as Universal Guide, the New Bixby and Search. What's more, upcoming Samsung models will also ship with support for AirPlay 2.

This is a big deal. For 2018 TVs, owners will be notified and receive a firmware update.

In addition, Samsung noted the 2018/2019 TVs will also be graced AirPlay 2 support and be able to stream content from your iPhone or iPad to the television. Apple remains silent but let us see if more details emerge at CES 2019.
