Wayne Rooney arrested in USA

Former England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney was arrested last month for being drunk and swearing in public and paid a $25 fine Friday, according to multiple reports Sunday.

The former Manchester United player, who now plays for American team DC United, was charged on December 16 in Loudoun County, Virginia, officials said.

The spokesman added: "He was later released on a personal recognizance bond".

Public swearing and intoxication is a Class 4 misdemeanor.

A report in the Daily Mirror claims he was arrested by the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority.

But on Friday, Houlton attacked CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins for reporting on the sickout . The spokesperson said 99.8% of 2.2 million passengers screened on January 3 waited less than 30 minutes.

As originally reported by a local ABC news outlet , the 33-year-old was arrested at Washington-Dulles Airport in Virginia on December 16 before being released without bail.

The incident comes after Rooney was convicted of drink-driving in the United Kingdom in September 2017 when he was caught driving a Volkswagen Beetle while almost three times the legal limit. Two days before the arrest, Rooney posted on his social media pages that he was traveling to Saudi Arabia to attend the Ad Diriyah E-Prix, a Formula E race that takes place in a town just outside of Riyadh.

Rooney enjoyed an impressive first season in the MLS with DC United after joining from Everton on a free transfer in June 2018.

Rooney last played for England in November last year - a friendly against the United States of America in what became a defacto testimonial two years after his last full England game.
