5 teenage girls killed in Poland

Interior Minister Joachim Brudzinski told local broadcaster TVN24 the victims were a group of 15-year-old girls who were at the escape room for a birthday party.

One of the girls had gone to the escape room to celebrate her birthday, the official said.

A 26-year-old man employed at the location was hospitalized with burns.

Earlier, firefighters blamed faulty electric wiring and poor emergency procedures. (AP) Five teenage girls were killed in a fire at an "Escape Room" venue in Poland.

The condition of the injured man is now unknown. Asphyxiation is the probable cause of the deaths.

"Security was not ensured and that led to the tragedy", Mr Suski said.

Escape rooms, in which participants are locked in a room and must solve a series of puzzles in order to get out, are popular around the world.

Koszalin Mayor Piotr Jedlinski announced that Sunday would be a day of mourning in the city.

Local residents were placing flowers and lights in front of the location, a detached house.
