Church of Scientology stabbing: Man killed 'by teenager' in Sydney

A 24-year old man has died and a teenager has been arrested after two men were stabbed at the Church of Scientology's Australasian headquarters in Sydney. We can not make any further comment beyond the fact that the victim was a beloved member of our Church.

"This very unfortunate matter is in the hands of the police", spokesman Kei Sato said in a statement.

The domestic dispute began on Wednesday and escalated inside the gates on Thursday, when officers allegedly had to draw their Tasers to get the teenager to drop his weapon, described by police as a 20 to 25 centimetre-long kitchen knife.

A 24-year-old Taiwanese national died later in hospital.

Chief Inspector Jones said the 16-year-old did not live at the facility but did have family members attending the church.

'He's had a spin-out and they have tried to move him away to safety, ' a member of the church, who did not wish to be named, told The Daily Telegraph.

'At this would appear the altercation or the reason the young person has been removed from the premises is. related to a domestic incident that occurred yesterday, ' North Shore Police Area Command Detective Chief Inspector Simon Jones said.

The other staff member, 30, who was helping to escort the teen, was treated for minor cuts and is in stable condition. The teenager had lawful reasons to be at the Scientology complex but was asked to leave. "However, resulting from that incident, staff made the decision that he should leave the premises".

"The Church is providing the police with any assistance needed in their investigation", it said.

The centre is said to be its biggest spiritual centre outside the United States.

"It offers a lot of services".

The church on its website says the "Ideal Advanced Organisation in Sydney provides advanced religious services to Scientologists from across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region".

It was formerly the site of the National Acoustic Laboratory and was sold to the church in 2014 for a reported $37 million, according to CNN affiliate Nine News.
