Kyrie Irving of Boston Celtics sits out game with eye injury

Irving briefly left the game but returned to the floor and scored two points down the stretch.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens wasn't sure whether the injury could force Irving to miss time.

With the loss, the Celtics dropped to 21-15 on the season and 10-10 on the road.

And while there were a few excuses the Celtics could hang their collective hat on - such as the absence of big men Aron Baynes and Robert Williams, along with Kyrie Irving being limited to 28 minutes due to a scratched eye (forcing him to return with sunglasses) - the reality is Boston remains more of a work in progress than most anticipated. I'll be all right, though. However, once he attempted to run by Belinelli, Belinelli ended up scratching Irving in his left eye and Irving immediately was seen on the floor in pain. "I don't know what that means beyond tonight". [He] smacked the s- out of me.

Jaylen Brown had a season-high 30 points, but Boston was unable to maintain its first-half advantage.

New Horizons survived its flyby of Ultima Thule
It's not totally clear how these shapes form, but it's thought that they begin as two objects orbiting one another that merge. It's a moment that could define the future, but the name "Ultima Thule" is one from the past.

"He just caught me pretty good", Irving said, speaking to reporters while wearing sunglasses.

As for the Celtics, they suffered yet another disappointing defeat, as the Spurs scored 46 third-quarter points to erase a halftime deficit. LaMarcus Aldridge led the team with a season-high 38 points on 14 of 23 shooting, DeMar DeRozan added 25 points with 13 rebounds and six assists while Rudy Gay chipped in with 12 points. White had 11 points and three assists in the third quarter.

Victor Oladipo (22 points, seven assists) and Domantas Sabonis (20 points, eight rebounds) powered the Pacers to their fifth consecutive win. The Celtics point guard also praised the Spurs' game plan after they let in 76 points in the second-half, which was the most they have let in in a half this season.

Irving is averaging 23.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.9 rebounds while shooting almost 41 percent from beyond the arc this season.
