While that's still the internal codename being used to describe the new generation of consoles, that's only part of the story. The console might also include SSD storage for the first time, in order to reduce game load times.

We've already heard the codename "Scarlett" thrown around in relation to Microsoft's next Xbox lineup but this week, some new information came to light, further detailing the next-gen Xbox strategy. These have been branded "Anaconda" and "Lockhart" inside the Redmond-based company.

Starting today, buyers can save $100 on any Xbox One bundle, including Xbox One X, the world's most powerful console, and Xbox One S, the best value in gaming and entertainment this Holiday.

Microsoft has repeatedly expressed its interest in smudging the line between traditional console and PC gaming audiences.

In addition to the disk-less Xbox One that's set to launch by spring of 2019 alongside a disc-to-digital program that will help gamers convert their libraries to digital format, Microsoft is also working on Xbox One S and Xbox One X successors.

Microsoft is planning to launch public trials of its xCloud game streaming service next year, which will make Xbox games available across PCs, phones, and consoles.
