Trump's charity to be shut down amid illegality claims

The lawsuit will continue in court because it also seeks two other outcomes: $2.8 million in restitution, plus penalties, and a ban on Trump and his three eldest children serving on the board of any other ny nonprofit.

Trump Foundation has agreed to dissolve under judicial supervision amid an ongoing lawsuit concerning its finances, according to a document filed Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court by the NY state Attorney General's office.

Attorney-General Barbara Underwood and the foundation filed a joint stipulation with the court Tuesday laying out a process for shutting down the charity and distributing its remaining assets to other non-profit groups.

The suit seeks to ban President Trump from future service as a director of a NY non-profit for 10 years, and ban his sons Eric and Donald Jr., and daughter Ivanka from service for one year. They say they have been trying to shut down the foundation voluntarily for months.

Tuesday's agreement, which still needs a judge's approval, came weeks after a NY judge rejected arguments from the foundation's lawyers that the case was politically motivated and should be thrown out.

The closure is a concession by the president in an investigation he called a partisan attack.

They said that as MPs they had a right to be on the premises of a public establishment and to airtime on the public broadcaster. Orban's lawmakers have a two-thirds majority in parliament, allowing them to pass any law without opposition support.

The Trump Foundation functioned "as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump's business and political interests", Underwood said in the statement.

"This is an important victory for the rule of law, making clear that there is one set of rules for everyone", Ms Underwood added.

The lawsuit, filed by the state in June, claimed that Trump used his charity for political and personal gain.

NY AG Barbara Underwood secures a stipulation dissolving the Trump Foundation under judicial supervision, w/ AG review to ensure charitable $ goes to reputable orgs.

Lawyers for the foundation have said any infractions were minor.
