Penny Marshall dead at 75

Famed actress and director Penny Marshall passed away on Monday at the age of 75 her publicist revealed in a statement on Tuesday.

TMZ reports Marshall died of complications from diabetes.

"Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall", Marshall's family said.

She went onto direct "Big", starring Tom Hanks, in 1988.

The actress became a star after the massive success of the sitcom "Laverne & Shirley". She also appeared several episodes of The Odd Couple and Happy Days. Her final feature film as director came in 2001 with Riding in Cars With Boys.

Our thoughts are with Penny's loved ones at this hard time. The screwball comedy series, created by her late brother, Garry Marshall, followed the antics of two blue-collar women who worked as bottle cappers at a factory in Milwaukee. "He was also known for giving out the best Halloween candy", she said.

She is survived by her sister Ronny, daughter Tracy Reiner and three grandchildren, Spencer, Bella and Viva.
