Manchester United's players are not dishonest - Mourinho

The Liverpool manager was in charge of Dortmund for the 2013 Champions League final against Bayern, but the German admits he doesn't know if his history with the club will influence Liverpool's matchup.

Jose Mourinho defended Manchester United's players following the Red Devils' 3-1 loss at Liverpool, reiterating that he has the full backing of his squad. The omens, for what they're worth, are good.

After the match, Mourinho made the stark admission that United were unable to match the intensity and physicality of Liverpool's display and Giggs believes an expensively assembled squad have questions to answer.

Georginio Wijnaldum's shot through a crowd was fielded by De Gea, and with 20 minutes to go Jurgen Klopp made a change, bringing on Shaqiri for Naby Keita.

And it highlights the restrictions placed on the team by Mourinho's tactics when you realise that Lingard's goal at Anfield was his first away from Old Trafford in the Premier League since Jan 1. I'm not looking to play a good game, just run without stopping.

Yet De Bruyne, who was rested for the Community Shield and on the bench for the Premier League opener at Arsenal, felt he had enough rest.

"I am happy to play against Manchester City".

"In the season, you can get beaten in these games", he said. Damningly, they have now conceded 29 league goals - one more than they shipped in the league in the whole of last season.

"We'll see, it's hard to say, I've not been out that amount of time before".

'I got a bit of space, particularly second half and the gaffer is always banging on to me and Trent [Alexander-Arnold], more so this season, that we have to be more involved and I just tried to do that.

"A brilliant start. One of the best performances we've had since I've been at Liverpool", added Klopp.

Lyon coach Bruno Genesio promises to do his best when his side take on Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last 16, confirming that Barcelona are among the toughest opponents in the draw.

Things get worse when you delve deeper into the statistics of today's game. They were both just accidents.

"We are the reigning champions and when we play in this tournament, everyone knows what that means", Butragueno said.

"If the players don't do the maximum, then you call them dishonest". We've won the most of the games like we did previous year, and we are there with the top teams.
