Chicago police officers killed by train while pursuing suspected gunman

Two members of the Chicago Police Department were killed by a moving train on Monday after responding to a "shots fired" incident near the tracks, Chicago Police confirmed on Monday.

Associated Press Police investigate the scene where two officers were killed after they were struck by a South Shore train near 103rd Street and Dauphin Avenue in Chicago on Monday.

"I often say that the most risky thing a police officer can do is take a weapon off of an armed individual", he said. Both were married with young children and had been with Chicago police for about 2 years.

"This has been an immensely hard year for the Chicago Police Department, especially the 5th District", Johnson said.

The officers' deaths were especially devastating as they followed several other tragedies in the Calumet District this year, including two recent officer suicides, Johnson said.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the two officers investigated the area, then pursued the suspects by foot, and that's when their tragic end happened. "An investigation is underway, and we will keep everyone updated as details emerge".

Apple faces lawsuit over ‘misleading’ iPhone X marketing claims
If you're wondering about what this means in practical terms, it's spelled out in a 55-page complaint filed in the U.S. According to the complaint, the iPhone X's display is "only about 5.6785-inches and not 5.8-inches, as advertised ".

Local media reported that the officers were struck by a train operated by the South Shore commuter rail line that links northern IN and Chicago.

Two other Chicago officers besides Mr Marmolejo and Mr Gary were killed in the line of duty this year.

An officer on the scene said this was not an intentional act, but would not give more information.

Johnson asked Chicago to pray for the families of the officers, and for the men and women of the officers' 5th district, "who, even tonight, would stop at nothing to safeguard their community", he said.

As of 10:34 p.m., passengers from eastbound South Shore Line trains 19, 101, 121 and 123 were being bused from Millennium Station to their final destinations, according to an alert.

And in February, Commander Paul Bauer was fatally shot while pursuing a suspect in the Loop business district.
