'Unsettled' Ovie Ejaria set for talks with Steven Gerrard over Rangers future

Steven Gerrard insists he will not stand in the way of Ovie Ejaria returning to Liverpool. The Rangers manager acknowledged that the player had always been something of a loner, even when coming through the Liverpool academy.

"Liverpool are aware of the situation - we're in dialogue with them and I'll have a conversation with Ovie on Friday and see where we go from there".

"I had a chat with Ovie a few days ago and he's slightly unsettled".

'I don't think we need drastic changes in the next window, ' he said.

"The reality is he's a Liverpool player and Liverpool have nearly got to take charge of this". After so long away, Rangers need to build up European experience before they can go deep into a competition such as this.

"What I will say, is we will come again and it is important now we get back to winning ways domestically and we focus domestically to put ourselves in the position to come back again".

"I don't know if it's on the cards, but he's certainly the player who has been here before, who has captained the club and knows what it's about", Northern Ireland team-mate McAuley said. He was like that at Liverpool and he's like that here but he doesn't cause a problem with it.

"He's very respectful and talks with the players in the dressing room but he is the type of kid who does like to be alone". That leaves the Ibrox side short it attack and, according to
Gerrard, that was one of the "fine details" that ultimately prevented Rangers progressing from Group G.

Gerrard admitted the midfield playmaker was "unsettled" at Ibrox after struggling to adapt to the physical nature of the game in Scotland.

The 1-0 loss meant they finished third in a tough group also including Spartak Moscow and Villarreal. This is tempered with realism, though.

Earlier today, manager Steven Gerrard stated simply that he would be talking with the player and his parent club to "discuss what is best" moving forward, but if you are allowed to read between the line, he threw his toys, but we just haven't stuck agreement to cancel his deal yet. It is very hard to criticise the group because at times they punched above their weight.

"Then I'll speak to Liverpool and together we'll make the right decision for the kid".

Three-time defending champion Madrid is also seeded in the draw despite a 3-0 home loss Wednesday against CSKA Moscow. I could have scored several goals and if I did, the result would probably have been different.
