President Trump: Democrats are hypocrites, they have always supported border security

One of the most mind-numbingly absurd spin games that President Donald Trump and his allies like to play on immigration is to pretend that Democrats are the only ones standing in the way of realizing his Great Border Wall fantasy.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence meet with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in the Oval Office of the White House, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, in Washington.

The ball is in Trump's court, both sides say, and the president met today with top aides to discuss his spending strategy.

Trump has said the US must allocate billions of dollars for a wall along the US-Mexico border. But now his tone has softened.

As we've already learned, Republicans feel boxed in by Trump's demand that they pass his wall funding, and they're reluctant to hold this vote. "I will be the one to shut it down", Trump said Tuesday at a contentious White House meeting with House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY.

At the same time, Trump continues to insist that Mexico will pay for the border wall.

Without a resolution, parts of the federal government would shut down at midnight December 21.

Hints of Democratic agenda as Google CEO testifies
Put simply, if people are posting a lot of pictures of Trump using the word "idiot", this will be reflected in the results. Pichai replied by saying Google's searches are based on multiple factors that determine the end result.

"Whatever it takes to get border security, I will do it I pledged that a long time ago and will pledge it always".

"We've seen some strong speakers like Pelosi and some weaker speakers", said Matthew Green, a professor of political science at Catholic University who has written a book about House speakers.

In the video, Trump says Democrats are opposing his requests for funding of the border wall out of personal hostility toward him.

This was supposed to increase pressure on Democrats to supply the votes to get Trump's request through the Senate. She's poised to become House speaker when the new Congress convenes January 3. He told them he would take a look. Pelosi knows that a House bill could not survive a Democratic filibuster in the Senate, yet she continued to press Trump to offer a bill. Outgoing House Speaker Paul Ryan's pre-election prediction of a "big fight" over the wall has run up against the reality of the changed circumstances. "No, I don't think that's a lame duck".

Even if a bill with the wall funding passes the House, it is nearly certain to fail in the Senate, where Republicans hold a slim majority, and Democrats have pledged to block it from receiving the necessary 60 votes needed to advance.

The recalcitrant Democrats include Reps.

When Trump surrendered the floor to Pelosi, she immediately invoked the subject of a government shutdown, saying the American people recognize that we must keep the government open - as if that, and not border security, were the overriding issue - and warning, "You should not have a Trump shutdown". He told the Globe early last month that he believed Republicans talked of helping crown her as speaker because her unpopularity could make their job of winning back House seats easier in the next election cycle. "They have the responsibility and the power to keep our government open".
