Five contenders to be the next All Blacks coach

Five contenders to be the next All Blacks coach

On a significant day for New Zealand rugby, Hansen announced on Friday that he would not seek an extension beyond the Rugby World Cup and Hart was in no doubt where he stood in the country's rich rugby history.

The 59-year-old Hansen has been involved with the team since 2004, first as an assistant to Graham Henry and then as head coach from 2012, and fashioned an unrivalled record in the professional era, having won 85 of his 96 games in charge.

NZR chief executive Steve Tew said they might consider retaining Hansen in another role, but that conversation would not take place until after the World Cup.

But the talent of the man nicknamed "Razor" is undeniable and his unorthodox methods get results, as Hansen has noted.

"On his watch the All Blacks have had a winning rate of close to 90 percent - a remarkable run of sustained success".

He also has relationships with top players and would expect Hansen to support his bid to become head coach after years of loyal service.

"This is a critical process which shouldn't be rushed and shouldn't be made in the turbulent period that tends to follow a Rugby World Cup campaign", he said.

Hansen's decision could lead to Joe Schmidt taking over as New Zealand coach.

Hansen confirms All Blacks exit after 2019 World Cup

"I think everybody sits there hoping one day he'll come back and put himself back in the mix in New Zealand", McCaw said recently.

He was adamant that this time, the decision to retire was final, and said he was going to spend more time with his family.

That defeat to Ireland hinted at a potential power shift in worldwide rugby, with Joe Schmidt's side a serious contender to win next year's World Cup. The All Blacks now hold all the major trophies we play for, he played a critical role in the back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015, and we wish him and the team all the very best for next year's campaign.

"They're the ones that really feel it".

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen will step down in 2019.

However, Hart declared the successful candidate didn't need to have global experience but rather "a strong affinity to New Zealand as a country as much as they do to the All Blacks as a team".

"For one time in my life I'll keep [my] opinion to myself", he said.

Mo'unga was voted Super Rugby Player of the Year and teammate Taylor the Maori Player of the Year.

Mueller is also probing whether any foreign cash flowed to the inaugural fund, which is prohibited from accepting foreign funds. There have been other reports that prosecutors were interested in individuals with Russian ties attending Trump's inauguration.
