Rockets Emerge With Interest In Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Former Lakers wing and Los Angeles native could find his way back to the purple gold.

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets are reportedly discussing a major National Basketball Association trade, according to a report by league insider Shams Charania. First, reports came out that the team was working on a trade package for New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis, then rumors shifted to them being close to trading for Phoenix Suns forward Trevor Ariza. His skill set and experience is something that would help out a ton of contending teams. Caldwell-Pope signed a one-year deal to stay with the Lakers this summer for $12 million. Those demands were seemingly not met, as they declined a three-team deal.

The Houston Rockets are emerging as a suitor for Los Angeles Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in multi-team trade scenarios, such as with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns, league sources told The Athletic.

The Houston Rockets have been identified as a potential landing spot for Caldwell-Pope and could be key in facilitating a trade between Los Angeles and Phoenix.

This sounds like either an agent pumping up his client - how much interest is there in Caldwell-Pope? - or a team trying to start a bidding war or get other teams involved.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported on Sunday that the Lakers were pushing to get a deal done.

Ariza is not eligible to be traded until December 15, which is when players who signed free agent contracts this offseason can be dealt.

However, the Suns have no interest in bringing on Caldwell-Pope, resulting in the search for a third team.

This will be something to keep an eye on as Ariza will, one way or another, be with a different team soon enough.
