Immigrant girl, seven, dies after US-Mexico border arrest

The girl and her father were taken into custody on December 6 around 10 p.m., south of Lordsburg, New Mexico, the Post reported. Anne-Marie Green and Vladimir Duthiers have more. She was revived, DHS said, but did not recover. What happened here is that they were 90 miles away from where we could process them. "We gave immediate care, we'll continue to look into the situation, but again, I can not stress (enough) how unsafe this journey is when migrants choose to come here illegally".

The death of the seven-year-old comes after a toddler died in May just after being released from an ICE (immigration and customs enforcement) family detention facility in Texas, and as the administration of Donald Trump attempts to ban people from asking for asylum if they crossed the border illegally.

The girl's death raises questions about whether border agents knew she was ill and whether she was fed anything or given anything to drink during the eight-plus hours she was in custody.

DHS said that travelling north illegally is "extremely unsafe", and that "drug cartels, human smugglers and the elements pose deadly risks to anyone who comes across the border illegally". She was taken to a hospital, where she died, according to the Post.

Cynthia Pompa, advocacy manager for the ACLU Border Rights Center, said migrant deaths increased past year even as the number of border crossing dropped.

The Rays got infielder Yandy Diaz and minor and minor league right-hander Cole Slusser from Cleveland. Encarnacion is owed $20 million in 2019 and a $5 million buyout (or $20 million) in 2020.

The ACLU blamed "lack of accountability, and a culture of cruelty within CBP" for the girl's death. "In 2017, migrant deaths increased even as the number of border crossings dramatically decreased". An initial diagnosis by physicians at Providence hospital listed the cause of death as septic shock, fever and dehydration, CBP said. They say they are fleeing persecution, poverty and violence in their home countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador and hope to settle in the U.S. despite warnings that illegal...

"Horrifying. She should never have been put in a detention center". "This little girl deserved so much better". "The fact that it took a week for this to come to light shows the need for transparency for CBP".

Human Rights Watch, which reviewed the 52 publicly available death reports of the 81 detainees who have died in detention since 2010, determined in June that nearly half of those deaths were linked to substandard care. Kirstjen Nielsen. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, who represents El Paso, joined California Sen.

"And we hope Democrats join the president", he added.

"This is a humanitarian crisis and we have a moral obligation to ensure these vulnerable families can safely seek asylum, which is legal under immigration and global law at our borders", Castro's statement said.
