MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski apologizes for homophobic comment about Pompeo

MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski has not been penalized by MSNBC after making an anti-gay slur on the air yesterday during Morning Joe.

The "Morning Joe" co-host apologized on Wednesday for using the homophobic slur when condemning Pompeo's recent comments to Fox News regarding Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman's involvement in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared on Fox & Friends this morning where he appeared to deny that Saudi Arabia's crown prince ordered the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Mika Brzezinski is not appearing on Morning Joe Thursday - she's taking a pre-planned day off.

Grenell, who is openly gay, also urged Brzezinski to apologize more directly.

She quickly walked back the remarks and apologized when she realized what a stir her comments would make.

"Fox & Friends" did not mention the incident, or Brzezinski's absence, early Thursday.

"SUPER BAD choice of words. Sexualizing gay people this way is created to control them & minimize our worth", he said.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted, "Homophobic insults of the kind vomited out this morning by @morningmika have become a completely common and acceptable component of anti-Trump discourse, starting from the endless Trump/Putin gay insinuations to trash like this".

She said it sounded like Pompeo was carrying water for a "wanna-be dictator", using a cruder term. He also called Brzezinski and Scarborough "insane" - but defended her apology.

Brzezinski later expressed regret for her words, telling Anderson he was justified in his criticism. "I'm not the speech police", Hannity said.

"I'm dead serious", she continued.

NBC News did not immediately respond when asked for a guide on what the network considers inappropriate.

"I understand that [President] Donald Trump doesn't care", Brzezinski reacted.
